Diagonal Diary: Barbie dolls, Ronan reigns, and an article from Andre

Mon 8 April: Happy 58th birthday to Mark Blundell, who started 61 Formula 1 Grands Prix, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1992, and is now Sporting Director of British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) team Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, who are on their way to North Yorkshire for Wednesday’s second pre-season test. First item on the agenda for the Diagonal team’s Monday morning briefing is finalising a proposal for a potential client which we submit this afternoon. A press release announcing another new client is drafted (see Thursday’s diary entry!) and the latest episode of our ‘In the Hot Seat’ content series for the BTCC is released. This one features Jack Sears’ Trophy contender, Mikey Doble.

Max Mosley

Tue 9 April: A busy day of meetings in our City of London offices, including a visit from a potential client and an ideation session for Prodrive – the world-leading motorsport and advanced technology business which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Our MD Matt Bishop’s new MotorSport column is released and this one profiles former FIA President Max Mosley.

Wed 10 April: Our BTCC media and videography team is at Croft Circuit for pre-season testing. Ronan Pearson, 22, sets the pace on a rain-affected day during which a total of 925 laps and 1,943 miles are completed across six hours of running, Click here to watch Ronan Pearsons Interview. When the light at the end of Croft’s pit-lane went green at 09:30, the rest of the Diagonal team were in a planning meeting with Patrick Heuzenroeder who made his GB3 Championship debut at the end of last month. The 18-year-old Australian racing driver and his compatriot and mentor, David Brabham, will be in the Diagonal offices next week for a day of filming

and media activities. EventR – the app designed by former F1 team principal, Otmar Szafnauer, to simplify team travel – have some exciting upcoming announcements. The afternoon begins with a strategy session with Otmar and his team, and finishes with a follow-up meeting about a website build for a potential client who, like Otmar, will need no introduction to F1 fans…

Caitlin Wood

Thu 11 April: At 10:00 UK time, Caitlin Wood officially becomes the latest addition to Diagonal’s client roster. Barbie Sports Ambassador Caitlin – a former W Series driver – will be the only woman to compete in this season’s Porsche Sprint Challenge GB. The livery of her Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport will be pink thanks to a standout partnership with Mattel, makers of the iconic Barbie dolls. Like Caitlin, Andre Eriksen – CEO of our client Asetek SimSports – has racing in his blood, and he discusses his incredible journey in a special LinkedIn article posted today.

Fri 12 April: Preparations for the third and final BTCC pre-season test at Donington Park next Monday and Tuesday (15-16 April) are in full swing as much of the team are travelling to Derbyshire on Sunday. The third episode of ‘And Colossally That’s History’ – the podcast co-hosted by our MD, Matt Bishop – keeps us entertained as we finalise itineraries and logistics. This one is all about Michael Schumacher and the impact he had on F1.
