Diagonal Diary: Thunderstorms in Norfolk, an Aussie in Belgium and a look back to ‘74

Tue 28 May: A short turnaround after a Bank Holiday weekend in which we recover from a soaked Snetterton. Thunderstorms were the talk of the town over the Norfolk circuit as Rounds 7, 8 and 9 of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) took place.

Jake Hill took two wins from the weekend despite a penalty in the second race of the day in what was a mega drive. A fan favourite win also took place as Rob Huff took his first win 20 years in the BTCC at his home circuit and also the circuit of his last victory in 2004.

Caitlin Wood was also racing at Snetterton, finishing on the class podium in all three races on the opening weekend of the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB. Wood welcomed ‘Inspiring Girls UK’ on Saturday for a meet and greet to partner her on her mission to empower and inspire young girls to break into the world of motorsport which got tremendous support throughout the weekend which you can read here!

A new Motor Sport column by our MD Matt Bishop is published. This week, the Bish writes on the subject of the 1974 Monaco Grand Prix, a more eventful race than this year’s event at the Principality, which also took place on Sunday 26th May, the 50-year anniversary of an achievement that stands tall in the record books for one John Watson: his very first F1 world championship point.

Wed 29 May: It is yet another race week for Team Diagonal as we head into the ever-busy summer months in motorsport. We are heading abroad this time, with Pat Heuzenroeder, as the GB3 Championship takes on round three at the world-famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. We jump straight into the weekend as testing begins on the Thursday for a long weekend of motorsport for the promising 18-year old Aussie.

Thurs 30 May: The week does not stop there as on-track action at Spa gets underway for Pat Heuzenroeder in the GB3 Championship. Meanwhile, all the extra content we created from the rainy weekend at Snetterton for both the BTCC and Caitlin Wood is ready to be aired after an intense fews days of editing.

Also, we dialled in to an exciting Teams call with a potential new client. Keep an eye out for this one!

Fri 31 May: While on-track action continues, all eyes back at Diagonal HQ turn to next week. A glitzy central London event with our client Asetek, the maker of best-in-class racing sim hardware, is on the horizon, with another promising young driver also taking part.

Enjoy all the racing across the upcoming weekend, with the GB3 Championship races live on YouTube on Saturday 1st June at 10:44 and 15:39 with race three on Sunday 2nd June at 12:55.
