Diagonal Diary: Life’s a Beach

Two sunny beachside venues have grabbed the Diagonal Comms team’s attention over the past month. Spanning more than 7,400 kilometres (4,600 miles) and with the Atlantic Ocean in between, we have delivered our comms, PR, and content creation services at events in Miami, USA, and Zandvoort, Netherlands, for our clients the Cadillac Formula 1 Team and ROKiT respectively.

The first of two major milestones in the Cadillac F1 Team’s journey thus far saw it receive final approval from the FIA and Formula One Management in March to join the grid in 2026 as the sport’s 11th team. In the wake of that news, Diagonal hosted a press conference with Cadillac F1 Team’s Team Principal, Graeme Lowdon. The swathe of coverage that followed from mainstream media outlets across the world ensured that Cadillac made an instant impact upon confirmation of its F1 arrival.

The second major milestone came at the beginning of this month as the F1 circus rolled into ‘The 305’ for the Miami Grand Prix – the first of three races this season on Cadillac’s home soil ahead of the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of The Americas (17-19 October) and the Las Vegas Grand Prix (20-22 November). Miami provided the ideal platform for Cadillac to make a splash and launch its brand in F1. We were hard at work securing media interviews for major outlets with Cadillac’s senior spokespeople throughout the weekend.

However, our activities were by no means limited to the F1 paddock. In the hours after Max Verstappen had pipped Lando Norris to the top spot in qualifying to take his 43rd career pole position, the Cadillac F1 Team headed to Miami Beach for a glitzy red-carpet global launch event. The ‘Cadillac Club’ hosted the great and the good of F1 who rubbed shoulders with Hollywood A-Listers – including singer and actress Janelle Monáe, who gave an exclusive live performance during an exclusive first look at the team’s branding during an intimate and immersive celebration. Diagonal had invited journalists from major international and local outlets, resulting in significant positive coverage across motorsport, automotive, sport, lifestyle, fashion, and business media.

Fast-forward three weeks and our focus switched from west to east and Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands, home of the second round of this season’s GB3 Championship. We are working with ROKiT to activate their sponsorship of Deagen Fairclough, who is racing in GB3 with Hitech TGR, and is one of the hottest talents in junior single-seater racing, having taken the British F4 title in record-breaking fashion last year – a performance that led to him being nominated for the prestigious Silverstone Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award which he subsequently won.

In 2022, Fairclough won the groundbreaking ROKiT Racing Star sim-racing competition, earning himself a fully-funded drive in British F4 for the 2023 season. ROKiT has been his primary supporter ever since and, as he looks to progress up the single-seater ladder, GB3 was the logical next step.

Fairclough had a difficult start in the UK’s premier single-seater championship as he battled technical issues on his debut at the end of April. Once the problem was fixed, a mighty comeback drive in Race 3 from 25th on the grid to seventh in only seven full racing laps concluded his opening weekend at Silverstone on a high.

As GB3’s Continental European road trip began at Zandvoort last weekend, the 19-year-old Brit converted the potential in his ROKiT-sponsored Tatuus GB3 MSV-025 machine into podiums. Fairclough scored a second-place finish in Race 1 and a third-place finish in Race 2, before backing up those strong results by taking the chequered flag in fourth in Race 3. After a weekend far more reflective of his true performance, Fairclough now lies fourth in the overall standings only 22 points adrift of the championship leader.

Our Diagonal team has been by Fairclough’s side throughout the GB3 season so far, capturing video and photographic content, and providing on-the-ground comms and PR support. Our content creation has included interviews that share unique insights into Deagen’s performances, trackside photography, and brand-focused content.

The GB3 season continues at the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in two weeks’ time (31 May – 1 June). Before that, our Diagonal team will be on the ground at Snetterton for the third meeting of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) season this weekend.
