Diagonal Comms to partner the British Touring Car Championship from 2024

Diagonal Comms, the communications and content agency founded this year by experienced motorsport comms chief Matt Bishop, today announces a brand-new partnership with TOCA – organisers of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).

Commencing in January 2024, Diagonal Comms will provide the BTCC with a comprehensive communications solution, including press office, PR, media liaison, content creation, and digital and social media management.

Founded in 1958 as the British Saloon Car Championship, the BTCC is one of the world’s best-loved and most famous motor racing championships. Run on some of the UK’s greatest circuits, the BTCC continues to captivate millions of fans and provide a platform for teams, drivers, and sponsors to raise their profiles and reputations.

The BTCC’s media team will continue to be led by PR and Media Director, Simon Melluish, working with Diagonal Comms, as the agency strives to promote the championship’s unique allure and enduring appeal via innovative digital marketing, social media, fan engagement, and mainstream media coverage.

The 2024 BTCC season will begin on 27-28 April at Donington Park where reigning champion Ash Sutton will start his pursuit of a record-breaking fifth drivers’ title.

Matt Bishop (Managing Director, Diagonal Comms) said:
“We at Diagonal Comms are absolutely delighted to have won the contract to devise, manage, and deliver the entirety of the BTCC’s comms, PR, social media, content creation, and digital marketing operation. The BTCC is a fantastic championship that has been delighting trackside spectators and TV viewers alike for generations. The drivers are brave and brilliant while the cars are superbly impressive featuring ultra-modern hi-tech hybrid powertrains, all of which results in a championship that is fast and furious, close and competitive, and exciting and entertaining. We at Diagonal Comms intend to work tirelessly to support Alan Gow and his team at TOCA in their efforts to build on the BTCC’s enormous success, our ambition being to communicate its tremendous appeal and enduring allure to new audiences now and in years to come.”

Alan Gow (Chief Executive, British Touring Car Championship) said:
“I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Diagonal Comms as the BTCC’s new communications agency. I have known Matt [Bishop] and admired his work at the highest level of motorsport for many years. The Diagonal Comms team has presented us with an innovative vision, and I am looking forward to seeing it in action as we seek to extend our reach. I would also like to thank our outgoing agency, MPA Creative, which has been such an important part of the TOCA family for three decades and has done fantastic work throughout that time. In recent years, that work has been led by Simon [Melluish], and his continued presence in the paddock will be a great asset to the Diagonal Comms team.”
